TULIPS

Tulips are one of the first blooms of color welcoming spring each year.  They are fun and vibrant and will put a smile on your face!  This year we planted 14,000 bulbs to bring a joy to our flower friends.

Farming a tulip crop in Oklahoma has its challenges.  For one, we don't always get cold enough for these special bulbs to do what they need to do to produce tall beautiful stems each year.  For this reason, we have our bulbs chilled prior to planting to ensure they have all of their weeks of cold needed so that you get to experience the best blooms.

We do sell tulip bulbs in December for Christmas that are ready to go into the ground if you want a colorful display at your home.

Typically, sometime in March the tulips will arrive! It is completely dependent on the weather.  If we have a warmer winter, they come earlier and if it has been consistently on the cooler side we may not see the tulips until the end of March.

To pick: Reach down to the bottom of the stem right where it pops out of the ground.  Gently wiggle and pull.  Sometimes the bulb will come up too.  This is a bonus for you.  We have clippers here for you to remove the bulb as you make your bouquet.

What to do with the bulb?  We don't keep the bulbs at our farm. But if you want to experiment, feel free to try.  Our suggestion is to keep the bulb in a dry location.  In the fall, place the bulb in a refrigerator from September to January.  Plant the first week in January.  You may only get foliage the first year.  The second year you may get a bloom if you're lucky.

We hope to see you this spring to break the winter blues with beautiful pops of color in your tulip bouquets!
